The Erler-Zimmer articulated, numbered foot skeleton with tibia and fibula attachments is a life-size anatomical teaching model for illustrating the bony structures of the human foot, including the distal portions of the tibia and fibula. The model is based on a true-to-life cast and is designed for use in training, teaching, and illustrative demonstrations.
All bones are flexibly mounted on rubber. This mounting method allows for a dynamic representation of functional foot movements, particularly the rolling motion, as well as the joint positions involved. The integration of the distal tibia and fibula allows for a clear view of the bony connection between the lower leg and foot and supports the visual understanding of anatomical relationships in the area of the ankle joint.
In addition, all bones are numbered. The bone numbering is supplemented by a corresponding nomenclature that includes the names of the depicted structures in Latin, German, and English. This allows for the unambiguous identification and assignment of individual bones in teaching and practice contexts, such as in structured anatomy lessons or in demonstrations similar to those used in exams.
This model is intended for use in medical and anatomical education, including in the fields of anatomy, orthopedics, physiotherapy, podiatry, and biomechanics. It serves solely to illustrate anatomical structures and functional movements and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications. It is supplied without a stand, allowing for flexible use in various teaching and demonstration situations.
