The Erler-Zimmer hand model with tendons, nerves, and carpal tunnel is an anatomical teaching and demonstration model for illustrating the bony and selected soft tissue structures of the human hand in natural size. The model includes the hand with the forearm attachment and is based on an anatomically accurate replica for training and teaching purposes.
The bony structures of the hand are represented as individual bones and movably mounted on wire. Selected soft tissue structures are also shown, including tendons, nerves, and ligaments in the hand and wrist. Among the structures depicted are the tendons of the flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor pollicis longus muscles , the common tendon sheath ( vagina communis tendinum musculorum flexorum ), the transverse carpal ligament , and the median nerve .
The combination of a flexibly mounted hand skeleton and depicted soft tissue structures allows for a clear visualization of the spatial arrangement and course of functional structures within the carpal tunnel. The flexible mounting enables the demonstration of typical hand and wrist movements in teaching and training situations.
This model is intended for use in anatomical and medical education, including anatomy classes and specialized training in orthopedics, hand surgery, and occupational therapy. It serves solely to illustrate anatomical and functional relationships and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
