The Erler-Zimmer hand and forearm model is an anatomical teaching model for illustrating the bony structures of the human hand, including the forearm. Based on a true-to-life cast of a human hand skeleton, the model includes the ulna and radius in addition to the hand bones. It is designed for use in training, teaching, and clear demonstrations.
The hand bones are individually mounted on wire, allowing for movement. This construction enables the demonstration of typical hand movements and the illustration of the spatial relationships between the carpal, metacarpal, and phalangeal bones. The attached forearm additionally allows for the demonstration of rotational movements between the ulna and radius.
By using the forearm, movements such as pronation and supination, as well as movements in the wrist area, can be clearly demonstrated. The model supports the visual understanding of anatomical relationships in the upper extremity, specifically in the hand and forearm.
This teaching model is intended for use in medical and anatomical education, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthopedics, and related fields. It serves solely to illustrate anatomical structures and movement sequences and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications. Use outside of its intended teaching and demonstration purpose is prohibited.
